What is the ECO4 Scheme?

The ECO4 (Energy Company Obligation Phase 4) scheme requires major UK energy suppliers to help low-income and vulnerable households reduce their energy use and emissions.

The ECO4 Scheme is designed to help homes that are:

  • Poorly insulated
  • Expensive to heat
  • Running on outdated systems

If you live in an older property, are not on the gas grid, or have high energy bills, you could qualify for subsidised upgrades (subject to eligibility).

What is included?

Through ECO4, eligible homes may receive fully funded or heavily subsidised:

  • Loft, cavity or wall insulation
Cut heat loss and improve comfort
  • Air Source Heat Pump installation
Modern, low-carbon heating system with low running costs
  • Room-in-roof and underfloor insulation
Ideal for older properties or converted spaces
  • Smart heating controls
Improve efficiency with zoned or programmable systems
  • Boiler upgrades
Replacing inefficient or broken systems with modern units.

All work is carried out by accredited professionals – and we manage the funding paperwork, so you do not have to.

Do you qualify?

You might be eligible if:

  • Your home has an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G
  • You use an old or inefficient heating system
  • You or someone in your household receives certain welfare benefits or support

We will ask a few simple questions and let you know exactly what support may be available to you.

Whether it is a rented flat or a family home, we will go through the potential improvements that could make the biggest difference.

Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex)

The Local Authority Flexible Eligibility (LA Flex) is an extension of the ECO4 scheme that allows your local council to widen the criteria for support. This means more households, beyond those receiving benefits, may be able to access insulation and heating upgrades.

What is the LA Flex scheme?

  • Expanded access to funding – Councils can help residents based on broader criteria such as low income, chronic health conditions, age, or risk of fuel poverty.
  • Designed to meet local needs – Each local authority sets its own eligibility rules, considering local demographics and vulnerability factors.
  • Support for vulnerable households – LA Flex aims to improve living conditions for those most at risk from cold homes, including the elderly, young children, and those with respiratory or cardiovascular issues.
  • Some examples of factors that a local authority would consider for eligibility:
    • The annual household income is under £31,000
    • Residents are experiencing health-related conditions aggravated by cold
    • The property has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G

We can help determine if LA Flex could work for you based on where you live and your household circumstances. Contact us today to find out more.

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)

If your home could be more energy efficient, you may be eligible for support through the Great British Insulation Scheme. This government-backed programme helps households across England, Wales, and Scotland insulate their homes, reducing heat loss and energy bills.

  • Designed for homes with low Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) ratings (D-G)
  • Available to those in Council Tax bands A-D in England (A-E in Wales/Scotland)
  • Covers insulation upgrades like loft, cavity wall, and solid wall insulation.

Better insulation means less energy wasted – and more money saved.
